国防大学教授、博士生导师。长年给中外高级军官、企业总裁及高层管理人员讲授有关《孙子兵法》的课程。
曾于1979年参加对越自卫反击战，冲锋陷阵，战绩突出，刻骨铭心的实战经验使其对兵法内涵有独到的领悟，并融化于教学和研究之中。1999年在美国学术访问期间应邀在印地安纳州贝尔大学讲授“孙子的国防思想与中国的国防政策”。2001年10月应邀前往芬兰国防学院座谈《孙子兵法》，讲授“游击战理论与实践”。2006年在中央电视台《百家讲坛》栏目作了系列讲座“《孙子兵法》解谜”，在“名家讲坛”栏目系列讨论“名战名将与《孙子兵法》”。
